She is using an online computer program available to her through New River Community’s College’s distance education program. Susan participates in LVNRV’s Skill UP NRV initiative as part of the Montgomery County Social Services VIEW job readiness program. Susan hopes to complete her GED this summer and attend NRCC in the fall to prepare for a career in health care.

Skill UP NRV is an initiative to help adults learn the basic skills they need (reading, writing, math, english, computers, and GED skills) to accomplish their work-related goals. LVNRV is excited to partner with organizations serving low-income adults to give clients the skills they need to achieve economic stability.

Skill UP is generously funded by the Corning Incorporated Foundation, Community Foundation of the NRV, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Phi Kappa Phi at Virginia Tech, Virginia Literacy Foundation, the United Way of the NRV, and local governments.

Thanks to the volunteers, community partners and contributors supporting the Skill UP NRV initiative, adults are learning the skills they need for financial self-sufficiency!
