James W. (Pete) Cox, Jr., passed away after a brief illness at Kroontje Health Care Center. Pete was born on October 3, 1924 in Blacksburg, VA and he departed this life on June 16, 2019 at the age of 94.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ollie Cox and one brother, Robert (Bob) Cox, all of Blacksburg. Left to rejoice in his memories is his wife of 70 years, Mary Cox. He is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Lafon and Virginia Cox. He has several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as his caregivers, Johnny and June Cox.

Pete proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, in which he was a decorated veteran.

Pete will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbors at Claytor Lake, as well as The Smokey Mountains. He enjoyed traveling and square dancing with Mary.

The family would like to thank the Kroontje Center and Hospice for their love and care. Mary and family would also like to thank Pastor Gary McCoy and J.B. Beane for their support and loving visits to Pete and herself.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary McCoy and Rev. J.B. Beane officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blacksburg Christian Church, 240 Watson Ave, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
