Preserving memories: Asta Video Productions on Radford Road turns 20

Asta Video Productions is the video transfer company at 890 Radford Street and are celebrating their 20th year in business.

Asta Productions, owned by husband and wife team Michael and Christina Webb, announced that the business is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

In 1999, they offered services that no one, at the time, was offering in this area.

“We were the first business in this area to offer digital video production work.  As people began asking about more types of digital work, or other types of media transferred to digital, Asta Productions adapted to those requests and began offering more services,” Christina Webb wrote in an announcement of the event.

Even a quarter of a century ago, they were ahead of the technology curve.

“We started off really transferring film to tape,” said, Christina.  “We started that in 1995, but we did that under the name of Doctor Video. Later, we changed the name to sound more like what we were really doing, being a video company transferring tapes and film to DVD.”

“We were looking for a name for the company that was different,” she continued. “My mother was from Europe and had many first names, so we chose one of her names and used that for the uniqueness of our company name.”

Asta Video Productions doesn’t just transfer tapes or film (8mm, super-8, or 16mm) to DVDs, they also transfer other older media to a more modern format.

“People were asking if we could take their slides and make digital images of them, for use in their computer or create a photo montage with them,” said Webb. “So of course we had to figure out how to make that happen to help our customers.”

Asta Video also transfer nearly all types of audio tapes to CDs, including micro cassettes, and can take messages from cell phone voice mail.

Although big box stores now offer some or most of the services that Asta Productions offers, they cannot handle special requests and it is sent off or mailed to another location, Webb pointed out.

“We are a very unique business,” she said. “We do all the work in our office and our clients actually speak to the person who is doing the transfer.  We can handle special requests,” she said. “Asta Productions is local and their customer service is outstanding.”
