Javonte Green is a former Radford University player that made his mark for the past three years overseas. Now he is with the Boston Celtics summer league team.

Javonte Green finished his career at Radford University as the all-time leader in rebounds, steals, and games played, as well as winning the Big South’s Defensive Player of the Year his senior season. After graduation, the 6-4 Petersburg native signed a two-deal overseas and took his talent to Marin PiexeGalego in Spain’s LEB Silver League.  Green was the first player from Radford to sign a professional basketball contract since Art Parakhouski back in 2010.

This past month, he signed a free-agent contract with the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball League. Since then, he has shown his high-flying capabilities, entertaining packed houses in Las Vegas.

Whether he makes the team is unknown, but already he has scored 20-plus points in 10 of those games raising eyebrows from the sidelines.

A writer from the Boston Globe has called Green “the most electrifying player in the Celts camp.”

At RU, Green was named the Big South defensive player of the year his senior year along with being first-team all-conference and the National Association Basketball Conference’s second team. As a Highlander, he recorded 68 games with double-digit scoring and as many as 15 double-doubles.

His 68 steals as a junior is a Radford single-season record and coincidentally, it was the Celtics that invited Parakhouski to their camp in 2010. While in college, Green became known for his high-flying dunks and athleticism.

Now, he is on the fringe of at least making a NBA roster, hoping for a chance to hit the court sometime in the near future
