The Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, MCEAP pet mural is a fund-raising project in which pictures of donors’ pets – dogs, cats, rabbits, a goat and three horses – are being painted on the once cheerless cinderblock wall on the courthouse parking lot side of 7 Roanoke Street.
Led by Sue Hassock, a team of professional artists have arranged the pets with their names like Charcoal, Sweet Pea, Chappy, who is a rabbit, and a chicken called Flip.
The plan is to cover the entire 50-foot wall.
“People are interested,” Hassock said. “We have 80 pets right now. We want to finish them first. Once we’ve done these, we have room to do more, and we can go higher. This is just as high as I can go with my ladder.”
The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
