Christiansburg chows down at Chowdown

Good food, good friends, good times and good music were all part of Friday’s Downtown Chowdown.

Feed them and they will come. The Downtown Chowdown did and they did. Sixteen food trucks offered everything from pizza to crab Rangoon, avocado fries to hot dogs and cookies to barbecue at the eighth annual Downtown Chowdown Food Truck Rodeo Friday.

And the crowd did come. From 5-8 p.m., hungry folks packed the downtown area, which was blocked off for the special event sponsored by Downtown Christiansburg, Inc. People lined up to grab some groceries at any number of the food trucks, gathered with friends, listened to music and generally chowed down.

The event is the primary fundraiser for Downtown Christiansburg, Inc (DCI). The organization’s president, Justin Sanders, said that all of DCI’s free community events, including Wine and Artisans and Movies on Main Street, are funded by the proceeds from the food truck rodeo.

Sanders previewed the food truck rodeo as “an opportunity to show the New River Valley all that downtown Christiansburg has to offer.” He called the downtown area “a gem for the town and the entire region.”
