Signups under way for Parks and Rec’s Rowdy Dawg races

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for this year’s Rowdy Dawg bicycle races on Oct. 27. In addition to riders, volunteers are needed to help facilitate the event.

Four race categories are available: Beginner (5.5 miles), Sport XC (13 miles), Expert XC (18 miles), and XXC (34 miles).

The Rowdy Dawg will be held on the Poverty Creek Trail System. The XXC will start at 8 a.m. The other categories will start at 10 a.m.

Several changes have been made for this year’s event.

The beginner course has been updated and is now more “beginner friendly.” It has been reduced to 5.5 miles and will no longer use the Joe Pye Trail. It will consist of only the Poverty Creek Trail and the May Apple Trail.

For all of the sporty dawgs out there, Parks and Recreation has brought back the Sport XC course! This course is 13 miles and is a good option for anyone who needs a more challenging race than the beginner course, but is not quite ready for the Expert XC course (18 miles).

Lastly, Parks and Recreation is changing the Rowdy Dawg Super D to an all-new enduro race featuring three fun and fast downhill segments! This will take place on October 26th at 4 p.m. after the conclusion of the Brush Mountain Breakdown.

More specific info for this race series will be released closer to the event.
