Shoppers and crafts will be on hand for the 28th annual Holiday Craft show, sponsored by the Christiansburg Lions Club.

For the 28th time, the Christiansburg Lions Club is at it again, sponsoring the annual Holiday Craft Show on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Christiansburg Recreation Center from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

More than 5,000 shoppers and about 150 crafters are expected to take part in the show.

A snack bar will be available for breakfast and lunch, and door prizes will be awarded.

For the last 20 years, the Christiansburg Recreation Center has partnered with the Lions to present this special holiday event for shoppers and crafters alike. A number of sponsors also help each year by supporting the craft show.

With the proceeds from the craft show, the Christiansburg Lions are able to provide funds for a number of community service projects. These include procuring eye glasses for those in need, sponsoring Boys’ and Girls’ State representatives from local high schools, supporting the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, the local rescue squads and the various fire departments, and providing vision screening for local school children in conjunction with other local Lions Clubs.

Overall the Christiansburg Lions Club generates between $20,000 and $25,000 each year for local projects and benevolences. In this way, the local Lions join forces with more than two and one-half million other Lions in more than 200 countries to fulfill their organization’s motto, “We serve!”

Christiansburg Lions Club members provide for our own dues, meals and other individual expenses. All of the funds the club raises from the craft show and other projects are used for local, state, national and international Lions Club projects.

The local Lions Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Amelia’s Italian Restaurant in Cambria. The club currently has some 50 members.

Past club president Doug Kanney expressed his gratitude for the support the club receives from the community for the craft show. “We are grateful for the support and encouragement of our local community and the citizens of Christiansburg, the surrounding areas, and for all the local sponsors and all the crafters who are a part of the craft show,” Kanney said. “Without our sponsors, the crafters, and certainly our craft show shoppers, we could not have such a successful and enjoyable time! We are grateful for each and every one of those who help us from year to year and especially with the craft show.”

Kanney noted that with the level of community support the Lions receive, they will be able to continue their service to the area and the people who live here.
