Legendary Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer has some advice for everyone during these stressful times about dealing with the coronavirus epidemic. In a 30-second video released this week by Virginia Tech athletics, Beamer said he has always believed in having a strong defense.

“So, here’s our game plan to beat the coronavirus,” he said.

Beamer became the head football coach at Virginia Tech from 1987 and retired in 2015. He was one of the longest tenured active coaches in NCAA Division I FBS and, at the time of his retirement, was the winningest active coach at that level. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

He has become the face of the Virginia Tech athletic program and is recognized nationwide.

In the video released last week, Beamer provided some simple advice that constitutes his game plan:

  • Wash your hands often, a full 20-seconds;
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow;
  • Avoid crowds, keep up at least six feet between you and others;
  • Clear and disinfect the surfaces you touch daily; and
  • Stay home if sick.

“We’re in all of this together. Let’s team up and keep each other healthy,” the coach concluded.
