NRV Building Supply is now open in Christiansburg at 2000 Roanoke Street.

A Virginia company with more than 70 years’ experience in the building materials business has opened New River Valley Building Supply.

The store is in a former Moore’s Lumber building at 2000 Roanoke Street in Christiansburg. The showroom has been renovated, and two other buildings will be completed next month to ensure the entire inventory is covered and protected. The complex encompasses more than 41,000 square feet of warehouse and store buildings spread over five acres.

“The growth in the community and our involvement in the local real estate market made the NRV a perfect choice for us,” said Jay Dickens, CEO/president of The Lester Group, owner of the store.

“We worked around the inconveniences caused by the COVID-19 virus with the great support of our contractors and suppliers. From the purchase of the site at the end of 2019, we set an aggressive timeline for opening in early May and have met that target.

We are excited to be part of the community in the New River Valley,” said Dickens.

“The store has a full range of products needed to build or repair a house,” said Tal Sexton, general manager. “We’re hiring and anticipate employment of approximately 20 persons in the next two years.”

Products include lumber, plywood, engineered flooring, windows, doors, columns, decking, kitchen cabinets, molding, millwork, roofing, insulation, siding, tools and hardware.

“We’re a local store with knowledgeable employees who are providing customers with expert service,” Sexton added. “We’re already involved in local organizations, strengthening our reputation for community involvement.”

The store has joined the NRV Home Builders Association and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

The Lester Group opened its first building supply store in 1949 in Martinsville. Other stores are in Lynchburg, Fredericksburg and Manassas.

In addition to building supply stores, The Lester Group is involved in manufacturing of treated lumber and doors, management of forest land and real estate development in Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia. Founded in 1896, the company is based in Martinsville.
