Hokie women’s tennis recruiting class ranked 13th

The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team’s 2020 recruiting class was recently named the 13th best group in the nation by the Tennis Recruiting Network. The class consists of Tamara Barad Itzhaki (Hertzeliya, Israel), Katie Andreini (Cary, N.C.), and Sabina Richtrova (Roznov pod Radhostem, Czech Republic).

Itzhaki has had success in recent years competing throughout Europe and Asia and was a 2018 Hertzeliya International Tennis Federation Pro Finalist. “Tamara has had a great amount of experience playing at a very high level of tennis for the past few years,” head coach Terry Ann Zawacki said. “She has impressed us with her work ethic, her determination and her successes both on and off the court.”

Andreini, who has been ranked as high as No. 38 nationally in 2020, is the second-ranked player in North Carolina. She was the 2019 North Carolina High School Player of the Year and the 2019 Summer Series at Virginia Tech doubles champion. “We have been following Katie now for a number of years, and we have been impressed with her constant improvement, her feisty competitiveness and her eagerness to be a Hokie,” Zawacki said

Richtrova has impressed across the Czech Republic with a No. 67 national ranking (No. 6 in her age group). She won the doubles Under 18 national championship. “Sabina has also impressed us with her constant rise in the rankings and ratings and we feel her best tennis is still ahead of her,” Zawacki said. “She is a positive person and we feel she will be another great contributor both in singles and doubles.”

The Atlantic Coast Conference placed nine schools in Tennis Recruiting Network’s Top-25 list.
