The Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has scheduled a neighborhood meeting to consider a conditional use permit request for townhouses at 1820 N. Main St.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 300 S. Main St. with appropriate public health emergency provisions addressing social distancing in place.
The permit applicant is Steve Semones of Balzer and Associates, Inc., for JJB Properties, LLC, the property owner. The applicant proposes 44 two-story townhouses on 6.596 acres in an R-5 transitional residential zoning district. This zoning allows only 20 bedrooms or 6.7 units per acre, which is the density proposed for the new development. This request does not represent an increase in density above either the Future Land Use designation or the allowable density under the zoning district regulations.
The meeting on Sept. 29 is to give the applicant the opportunity to present his plans and to provide citizens with the opportunity to ask questions and express their views and concerns regarding the application prior to the Planning Commission and Town Council public hearings. A staff member from the Planning and Building Department will attend the meeting and listen to the questions and comments made by the attendees. The meeting notes will be forwarded to the planning Commission and the town council.
For individuals preferring to remain at home, the meeting will also be broadcast live on Comcast cable, WTOB Channel 2 and will be streamed live. Comments may be submitted via letter or email. All correspondence received will be provided to the applicant and included in the staff report to the planning commission and the town council.
