Radford Athletics and the Highlander Club have established a Women’s Sports Leadership

Fund (WSLF) to support all 10 women’s sports in the areas of scholarships, academic development and enrichment programs.

Radford Athletics’ female student-athletes make up 61 percent of the 2020-21 student-athlete population. These Highlanders not only have a rich tradition of success in the classroom and in competition, they fully represent the university in the highest manner.

“The creation of the Women’s Sports Leadership Fund will empower our women to be successful not just as athletes, but as leaders in their communities,” said director of track and field and cross country Shelli Sayers. “To commit to their long-term excellence will be extremely valuable in all they accomplish at Radford and beyond.”

The WSLF will empower the university’s women student-athletes through specialized learning and leadership opportunities, will deliver additional and necessary resources for the various sport programs, and champion the development of the female student-athletes on and off the playing field.

“I was thrilled to learn about the creation of the Women’s Sports Leadership Fund,” said head women’s lacrosse coach Haley Hardy. “Representation is crucial to the growth and development of our future generations. This fund will allow female athletes to not only play the sports they love, but will help give them the tools they need to flourish as role models for future generations of Highlanders.”

Donations towards the fund will directly support current Radford female student-athletes in the sports of basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, softball, soccer, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Donations may be made through visiting TheHighlanderClub.com and choosing Women’s Sports Leadership Fund in the fund dropdown.
