Larry E. Sutphin, 61, of Christiansburg, Va. was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Arlie Sutphin (Lancaster). Larry is survived by his fiancée and the love of his life, Rhonda Graham Atkins of Christiansburg; a daughter, Lauren Sutphin (Carless Harris) of Christiansburg; siblings Debbie VanDyke of Christiansburg, Sherry Vaughn (Donald) of Inman, SC, Paul Sutphin (Ron Wight) of Wilmington, NC, Daryl Sutphin of Christiansburg, and Carol Sutphin (Dorothy Clements) of Christiansburg; a grandson, Colton Harris; his step-grandchildren Jonathan Harris and Ashton Price; nephews Charles DiRico (Karen) of Charlotte, NC, Tony Rowland (Ashley) of Inman, SC, Brooks Sutphin of Christiansburg, and Cody Vaughn (Claudia) of Boiling Springs, SC; a niece, Jessica Johnson (Joseph); great-nieces Brooklyn Sutphin, Alexis Rowland and Alannah Clements; a great-nephew, Jace Johnson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Larry is also survived by his fiancée’s family which includes Wanda Sheppard, Jerry Graham Sr. (Ennis), Jerry Graham Jr. (Tina), Calvin Graham (Nichole), Brittany Graham (Dalton), Matthew Graham and Braeden Graham. Special friends of Larry’s family include Leslie and Wayne Hetherington, Denise Yopp, Joshua Goad, Seth Quesenberry, Keith Quesenberry and their mother Donna Robinette, Debbie and Angel Cardwell, Nikki Elliott and a host of other friends.
Larry loved his dogs, Gracie and Bandit, and his cats. He was a lover of the Virginia Tech Hokies. He loved to take long rides on back country roads often visiting their homeplace on Chrisman Mill Road, spending time with his grandson Colto, and with his siblings while reminiscing about the old days. Larry was a jack of all trades and spent much of days completing projects for others.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at Walton Pentecostal Holiness Church (where Larry and Rhonda attended church), 4003 Morning Glory Dr., Radford. The memorial service began at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lee Sarver and Pastor Charles DiRico officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walton Pentecostal Holiness Church and that you take a ride on a back country road. Arrangements with Horne Funeral Home.
