In an email to the parents and guardians of Christiansburg High School junior and seniors, school principal Tony Deibler announced that the junior-senior prom for 2021 has been cancelled.
Deibler wrote, “As spring approaches, we have received questions regarding prom. We recognize that prom is a significant celebration for our juniors and seniors, and that many high school traditions have been lost over the last year due to the pandemic. Prom also takes a large amount of planning usually with months of lead time.
“Unfortunately, at this point, we cannot hold prom and still be within the guidelines for social gatherings in the governor’s Emergency Order 72. For this reason, there will be no school prom sponsored at our school this year.
“We know that this is disappointing and will continue to find ways to recognize the Class of 2021 for all of their successes and accomplishments.”
