The short spring football season is quickly coming to an end.

This week is critical for Christiansburg and Auburn, who are still in the hunt for a postseason appearance. Only the four top teams in each region make the playoffs.

Coming into the week, Christiansburg was sixth in points in the region, .5 points behind Magna Vista with Lord Botetourt first, Carroll County second, Abingdon third and Cave Spring fourth.

In Class 1C, Auburn is sixth just .2 points behind Eastern Montgomery and George Wythe. Galax and

Narrows are tied for first and Grayson is third.

Games this week:

Floyd (1-3) at Radford (3-1)

Last week: Glenvar rallied to down Radford 16-14 in the battle of Three River District foes. Zane Rupe threw a 70-yard touchdown to P.J. Prioleau who returned from an injury.

In the common opponent, Floyd lost 34-0 to Glenvar.

Prediction: Radford 38, Floyd 12.

Cave Spring at Christiansburg (1-3)

Last week: Christiansburg fell 41-21 to Patrick Henry. The Blue Demons scored 21 points in the second quarter to tie the ball game, but failed to find the end zone in the second half. MJ Hunter, who played multi-positions in the contest, rushed 14 times for 90 yards. Kenyon Johnson-Buchannon added 54 yards on 12 carries while Christian Cunningham had 67 yards on nine runs. The two latter running backs each scored a touchdown. Travis Altizer had Christiansburg’s other score on a 52-yard reception. The defense gave up 468 total yards to PH.

Cave Spring lost 63-7 to River Ridge District power Salem. Cave managed only 64 yards of total offense.

Prediction: Christiansburg 27, Cave Spring 24.

Galax (4-0) at Auburn (1-3)

Last week: Auburn ran into a buzz saw in a 38-6 loss to George Wythe. Auburn has been outscored 132- 71 this season.

Galax shut out Carroll County 40-0 as Cole Pickett passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while adding 91 yards on the ground on seven carries with two more scores.

Prediction: Galax 34, Auburn 10.
