Nancy India Bane Nixon, age 84, born on March 10, 1937, completed her life’s earthly journey on March 3, 2022, at home supported by her children.

Nancy died peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness. She was born in Vicksburg, Miss., to her loving parents, the late Howard E. and Mary Harman Bane.

Nancy graduated from Christiansburg High School and then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Radford University. On Aug. 2, 1958, she married Samuel Henry Nixon, Jr., and they celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in 2010.

She is survived by her loving children, Samuel H. Nixon III (Kelly) and Rebecca E. Nixon (Michael Collins); six grandchildren, Amanda Nixon (Shane), Morgan Gustafson (Dennis), Shanna McKenzie (Dawson), Eben Collins, Hayden Collins, and Ernie Cross; a brother, Buddy Bane (Colleen); a sister-in-law, Julia Styne; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would appreciate contributions to any of the following: The Harman, Bane, Nixon Scholarship with Radford University Foundation, PO BOX 6893, 801 East Main St., Radford, VA 24141; the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 107 W Main St. Christiansburg VA 24073; and the Humane Society Animal Shelter, 1183 Flanagan Dr., Christiansburg VA 24073.

Special thanks to the Medi Home Health and Hospice team and all the wonderful caregivers that helped Nancy through the years.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:00pm at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church.  Family will receive friends afterwards in the Church Fellowship Hall.
