VT Athletics announces enhancements to student experience at football games

Ahead of Virginia Tech Football’s 2022 campaign, and in partnership with the Town of Blacksburg, Blacksburg Police and the Virginia Tech campus community, the Tech athletics department has announced enhancements to the student experience on game days in Lane Stadium.

The Virginia Tech student body plays a critical role in creating the best atmosphere in college football and these changes have been made to thoughtfully improve the game day experience for all involved.

While Gate 7 will remain a student-only entrance, all students will be directed to a new point of entry into the stadium located on Washington Street between the Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center and the tennis courts. Whether coming from on campus or off campus, all students with tickets will begin their entry process into Lane Stadium underneath a 35-foot wide orange archway on Washington Street. This archway signifies the start of a walk toward the stadium that will feature any exclusive promotional giveaway items as well as bag check and ticket scanning stations.

Callaghan-Sheridan Way will be closed as a crossing point as that street will become part of the Lane Stadium footprint to improve in-stadium pedestrian traffic between the West stands and the East stands.

Wristbands for the North end zone will still be distributed outside of Gate 7. A wristband remains required to access the North end zone and are limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. Gates open two hours prior to kickoff.

Students without a wristband will be directed to the East stands. The footprint of the student section in the East stands has also been extended by one section to allow for more physical space and more student seating.

Additionally, in partnership with the university, there will be a new pregame experience available to students inside Hokie Village. Open three hours and 30 minutes prior to kickoff, this exclusive student tailgate will offer tailgate games, live music, and more.

Student season tickets for the Hokies’ 2022 home slate are sold out. Any students without tickets are encouraged to enter the single game ticket lottery.
