Christiansburg Fire Department Fire Chief Billy Hanks and 38 volunteer firefighters put on a loud show Tuesday night, Oct. 4, with the annual fire parade through downtown Christiansburg.

The parade served to kickoff the observance of Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9-15.

According to a report from the department, the number of overall calls in the area decreased from 967 to 938 in the past year.

Nevertheless, the firefighters stay active, serving on many boards or committees of both the Southwest Firefighters Association and the Virginia State Firefighters Association. The firefighters also provide tours to local students and help with car-seat installation for families expecting some newcomers.

The line offices for the fire department are Chief Billy Hanks, Assistant Chief, Danny Yopp, Deputy Chief Forest Redd, First Captain Brandon Turner, Second Captain Pete Haslip, First Lieutenant Jordan Fenton, Second Lieutenant Mike Moore, Third Lieutenant B.J. Smith, and Training Lieutenant Mike Hutchison.

The department’s corporate officers are Nathan Brewbaker, Floyd Childress, Mike Dickerson, Mike Moore, Donnie Reed, and Potsie Smith.

The department’s engineers are Doug Adkins, Jeremy Compton, David Flinchum, Justin Griggs, John Linkous, Daniel Mussleman, Link Sheppard, and Brandon Winesett.

The department’s firefighters are David Akes, Noah Aliff, Scott Canada, Jon-Luk Cole, John Epperly, Billy Linkous, Kevin Meredith, Scott Phillips, Alan Shaw, Barry Simmons, Bobby Sowder, William Spencer, Curtis Whitt, Jeremy Williams, Danny Wilson, and Frank Wright.
