Christiansburg moved to 4-2 on the season with a 41-0 win over Blacksburg in the annual Battle of the Burgs. Tanner Evans rushed for 126 yards on 11 carries as the Blue Demons will welcome Hidden Valley this week for homecoming.
Blacksburg remains winless with that streak now stretching back three seasons.
Elsewhere, Radford remained unbeaten as quarterback Landon Clark continued his torrid 2022 pace with a nine-of-16 passing night for 215 yards and five touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 41-12 win over Carroll County.
The Bobcats will sit out this week and prepare for next week’s Three Rivers District matchup with Floyd, which shocked Glenvar this past Friday.
Eastern Montgomery also picked up a Pioneer District win over Craig County.
The Virginia High School League has released its latest points standings. With 21.4 points, Christiansburg is second in Region 3D behind Lord Botetourt’s 22.8 points. Bassett is third at 20.4. Then come Cave Spring 20.333 poins, Magna Vista 17.833 points and Staunton River 17.8 points.
Radford leads Region 2C with 25 points to second-place Martinville’s 24.4 points. Glenvar and Floyd are third and fourth respectively. Alleghany is in fifth place.
Grayson County leads 1C with 19.6 points, edging out Galax with 18.4 poins and George Wythe at 17.6667 poins. Narrows is fourth with 15 points.
The AArea Top 5 are 1) Salem 2) Radford 3) Christiansburg 4) Narrows 5) Floyd.
Predictions for the week: Christiansburg 32, Hidden Valley 20; Pulaski 34, Blacksburg 18.
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) and Truist have announced a new partnership naming Truist as an Official Partner of the VHSL. One of the area’s leading banks, Truist offers students support through presenting financial wellness seminars and teaching the importance of financial independence. The partnership will also support students through athletic events and education.
“Truist has a long history of serving communities across Virginia. We welcome them as a VHSL partner and appreciate their support of our student participants, schools, and families,” said John W. (Billy) Haun VHSL’s executive director.. “Truist also commits to improving financial literacy, and we are happy to support important initiatives like this.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the VHSL to support high school athletics and academics,” said Thomas Ransom, Truist’s Virginia Regional President. “Our purpose at Truist is to inspire and build better lives, and it’s partnerships like this that bring our purpose to life.”
