Troy Cole was named Montgomery County’s information technology director, effective Nov. 22, 2022.

According to Angela Hill, Montgomery County’s deputy county administrator and chief financial officer, Cole had served as the county’s interim IT director for the last two months.

“Troy has been a valued team member for over 14 years,” Hill said. “During that time he has shown continued dedication to both the organization and to all of our employees. As Interim Director, Troy demonstrated exceptional leadership. We know he will continue to make a significant positive impact for Montgomery County in his new role.”

As information technology director, Cole will be supporting the software applications and technology infrastructure used by Montgomery County employees and departments. In addition, he will lead the information technology team in identifying and responding to the changing and diverse needs of the county through fiscally responsible collaboration and innovation.

Cole began his Montgomery County career in 2008 as a technology support specialist and went on to serve as a systems engineer prior to being named interim information technology director in September of 2022. He has 16 years of information technology experience and more than 25 years of customer service experience.

Cole completed computer science course work at Roanoke College and web design course work at Virginia Western Community College.
