Big South softball tourney in Radford

Radford University will host this week’s Big South softball tourney with no Highlander squad. 

The host school finished the season this past weekend to finish in last place in the conference. Only the top four teams qualify for the May 11-13 tournament. 

Radford finished with a 5-16 conference record and 16-34 overall. 

For the first time since 2019, Longwood University is the No. 1 seed in the Big South Softball Championship.

The Lancers and Campbell tied for the regular-season championship with identical 15-5 conference records (.750 winning percentage), and Longwood earned the top seed based on its 2-1 series win over the Camels this past weekend.  It is the Lancers’ sixth regular-season Big South crown, while No. 2-seed Campbell collects its third-straight title and fourth overall. 
USC Upstate is the No. 3 seed following its 13-8 Big South record (.619 league winning percentage), with Charleston Southern clinching the No. 4 and final seed based on its 11-9 conference mark (.550 winning percentage). 
The 2023 Softball Championship begins Thursday, May 11 with two games scheduled, continues with three games on Friday, May 12, and concludes Saturday, May 13 with two potential Championship contests starting at 1:00pm.  Every game will be broadcast on ESPN+.  The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Regionals.
