Motor Mile Speedway has announced the loss of its beloved flagman BJ Bruce.
In a Facebook post, a Motor Mile statement said the 34-year-old “BJ was often a contributor to our prayer in the driver’s meetings, he was a constant source of inspiration to all who knew him. BJ’s strength and dedication to our lord Jesus Christ will bring all of us comfort in his passing.”
The Ennice, North Carolina, resident who had been one of several longtime “flag wavers” at the paved oval, passed away on May 5. He was a pastor at Southside Church of Christ in Galax, a board member for the Virginia Christian Camp and an Assistant Troop Leader with the Cub Scout Troop Pack #810 in Woodlawn.
In addition to his parents, BJ is survived by his wife of 11 years, Amanda Sexton Bruce of the home; two children: Forrest Langdon Bruce V and Jaxon Carter Bruce both of the home.
Funeral services were held Sunday in Ennice.
