Nester, Marvin Wayne

Marvin Wayne Nester, 76, of Radford, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 8, 2023.  

He was the eldest son of the late Marvin and Elda Nester. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford for over 50 years, serving faithfully as a deacon, church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and Awana leader. 

Mr. Nester was an electrician, beginning his career with the family business, Star Electric. He also held positions at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and Southern Air and retired from Volvo Trucks, New River Valley Plant.  Mr. Nester enjoyed tennis, hiking, and traveling. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Donna Nester; his brother and sister-in-law Vander and Velma Nester, of Christiansburg; and his niece, Tracy D’Souza, of Roanoke.  

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Amy Nester and their son, Jack, of Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Lesley and Andy Morgan and their children, Andrew, Elijah and Olivia of Bridgeport, W.Va.; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Allen and Jill Nester of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Tim and Joyce Nester, of Radford; sister and brother-in-law Sonja and Dennis D’Souza, of Roanoke; three sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Judy and Buddy Linkous, of Roanoke; Karen and David West, of Altavista; and Mary Ruth and Parks Schaefer, of New Bern, N.C.; and other family and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate and professional care Mr. Nester received recently at Friendship Health and Rehab Center South, the SICU and 6th floor of Lewis Gale Medical Center and Blue Ridge Cancer Care. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, Radford, VA, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Timothy Worles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Nester requested that contributions be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Mission Fund, 624 Sixth Street, Radford, VA 24141.  

The Nester family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
