Christiansburg High School’s Mason Selfe has been named the River Ridge District’s co-player of the year for baseball. He shares the honor with Trey Lundy of Cave Spring.
Self was named to the first-team all RRD at both first base and pitcher. His battery mate, Marshall Basham, was named first-team catcher.
The Blue Demons placed four players on the second team including Tanner Evans (pitcher and shortstop), Sam Dudash (second base), Jeremiah Thompson (outfield) and Cam Dunn (utility).
Blacksburg High School’s Brice Abbott was named to the second team as a utility player.
Blacksburg’s Alec Staneck was named the River Ridge softball coach of the year as four Bruin players were named first team. Blacksburg was represented by: pitcher Lorelei Spradlin, her battery mate in catcher Kasey Mathena, along with outfielder Mia Farley and utility player Emily Dickerson. Christiansburg’s Kadyn Camper was also named first team.
The two school added to more to second teams, which were also announced on Thursday. Blacksburg’s Evelyn Rhoads and Lindsey Mann were joined by Christiansburg’s Brailyn Wilburn and Addison Reasor.
Christiansburg and Blacksburg dominated the boys’ soccer team also announced on Thursday. Blacksburg coach Shelly Blumenthal was named coach of the year, and he was joined by first-teamers: Edric Zhang, Sean Delorenzo, Kai Feng, Addison Bass, Wyatt Eschenman and goalie D.J. Garza.
Christiansburg’s Sami Seife and Luca Pickeral were also first team RRD.
Blacksburg added Charlie Lattimer on the second team along with Christiansburg’s Chase Fisher, Caleb Yopp and Isaac Prather.
On the girls’ soccer side, Christiansburg and Blacksburg shared the player of year honors with Ava Sanders (Christiansburg) and Mila Santsaver-Jones (Blacksburg)
Blacksburg had first-team honorees in Mila Santsaver-Jones, Erin Bishop, Kallan Malabad, Ava Massjouni. Charlotte Ellis and Kailyn Brawley. Christiansburg added four to the first team in Sanders, Ava Rose, Bridget Miller and Madison Farley.
Second teamers for Blacksburg were Virginia Crawford and Paige Miller.
