Race for ACCE provides funds toward debt-free tuition for Montgomery County high school graduates to attend New River Community College.

The ACCE (Access to Community College Education) program provides two years of free tuition for students to attend NRCC. Participating students must complete 80 community service hours each year and maintain a 2.5 GPA while attending NRCC.

The Race for ACCE is set for Saturday, August 5, at 9 a.m. at the Blacksburg High Cross Country Track. It will begin with a Children’s Fun Run, followed by regular 5K Run/Walk. Participants can run, walk or just hang out.

Door prizes and sponsorships are needed by July 15. Contact Martha Ann Stallings at mstallin@vt.edu.  To have a t-shirt for the race day, please register by July 15.

Medals will be awarded in each male/female age category. Door prizes awarded during medal ceremony. A cash prize drawing will take place for MCPS schools with four or more race participants. On the registration form, please identify the school you are affiliated with and whether you are a student, parent, faculty or staff member. In addition, school running clubs can get a special discount for participating runners. Please contact Martha Ann Stallings at mstallin@vt.edu.

250 Montgomery County students will be using ACCE funds during the 2023 Fall semester at New River Community College.

“TCG (The Community Group) is proud to be a sponsor of The Race For ACCE,” Penny Franklin, President of The Community Group. “The ACCE Program has been and will be a game changer for many students and their families in Montgomery County. The ACCE Program came from the work of the Dialogue On Race Law Enforcement Focus Group who understood we have to remove barriers that block access for African Americans and finances is a huge one. We should always remember having a conversation about race has opened doors to better lives for our children and our community. When we talk, we become the best we can be. No one should be left behind.”
