James Michael Smith, 73, of Blacksburg, died Jan. 5, 2024. He was born in York, Penn. April 29,1950 to the late Joseph Bruce and Geraldine Elizabeth Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Linda Mae Smith; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and David Prevette of Blacksburg; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Vanessa Smith of Winston Salem, N.C; brothers and sisters-in-law Tim and Robin Smith, Jack and Carol Smith, and Tom and Mylicah Smith; grandchildren Isabella, Luke, Grant, Jack, Olivia, and Levi; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a big personality and lived life to the fullest. His presence filled a room. He loved Jesus, his family, and his church. Always generous, he loved entertaining, he enjoyed playing the piano and was lovingly referred to as “Jimmy the Jokester” by his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Orioles, Ravens, and Hokies.

We find comfort and peace knowing he is fully restored and healed in his eternal home in heaven.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2101 Shadow Lake Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to GCPC Mercy Fund. Checks can be sent to the church at the address above. Please include the following in the memo line: “Mercy Fund in honor of Jim Smith.”
