Margot Thompson.

The Alleghany Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has honored two individuals for their outstanding work with community service in our local area.

A luncheon was held on Saturday, April 20 at the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg to present 2024 DAR Community Service Awards to Alicia Glynn and Margot Thompson.

Glynn volunteers with the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg. Since moving to the New River Valley about seven years ago, Alicia chose to become involved with the Kiwanis because she loves children and all the Kiwanis Club does for them, along with caring about their members and families. Glynn does a lot with the yearly Wilderness Trail Festival, sponsored by the Kiwanis. She also does outreach to the ill and

injured members with phone calls and cards.

Thompson has given many hours of work with “Room at the Table,” a community outreach project sponsored by the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church to supply free weekly meals to those in need. Thompson serves as a team leader and this year she will be a co-organizer of Room at the Table’s weekly meals and distribution. Margot also volunteers once a month at “For Your Table,” a community food pantry. Additionally, Thompson volunteers with the Montgomery County Christmas Store and is a past board member of the Montgomery Museum of Art & History and a docent. She is vital in helping with the Heritage Day event sponsored by the museum.
