Blacksburg High School has a new athletic director, and they did not have to go far to find her.

The school announced Nikki Sellers to the post earlier this week. Sellers, whose maiden name was Greco, has soccer coaching experience at both Virginia and Radford high schools.

Most recently, she has served as the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services at Radford University. In high school, she was a part of the 2007 Radford High School state championship soccer team. Her father, Mike, was a past coach of several of Bobcat boys’ teams.

“From a young age watching my father’s teams practice, to playing sports myself, I have always had a passion for athletics,” said Sellers. “Knowing the valuable lessons that can be learned through sports ensured that I wanted my future to involve athletics in some way.  What better way to support young athletes than serving as an Athletic Director in the sports-rich Blacksburg community.”

Sellers competed in cross country, track, volleyball, basketball and soccer at Radford.

After high school, Sellers played soccer at Emory & Henry College. Her undergrad degree is from Emory and Henry College in History and Secondary Education. She also has a Master’s degree from Ohio University in Sports Administration.

Growing up in Radford, Sellers said Blacksburg was always the team to beat.

While I don’t necessarily hang my hat on this, I did score two goals against Blacksburg my senior year in soccer,” she said. “That said, Blacksburg is a talent-rich community both for student-athletes and coaches.”

“My goal is to work to support students associated in both athletic and academic activities, teams, and coaches at Blacksburg High School to continue the rich tradition of success, while also providing opportunities for student-athletes and their families to learn more about what sports can offer them after they leave Blacksburg High School.  Specifically, I want to see student-athletes live up to their academic and athletic potential.”

Sellers replaces Peter Lyell, who stepped down last month.
