Hugh Peck Givens Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at home June 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. 

Peck was born in Giles County in 1939 and spent most of his childhood in Christiansburg. He met his future wife Brenda when they were both in third grade at Christiansburg Elementary School. Peck and Brenda were high school sweethearts and married in 1958.

Peck earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1962 and remained a lifelong Hokies fan. He worked for Celanese and Fiber Industries for most of his engineering career, and he and his family lived in Christiansburg, Charlotte and Shelby, North Carolina, and Simpsonville, South Carolina. Peck was an avid golfer, gardener, and woodworker, and had many other interests and hobbies throughout his life.

Peck is survived by his wife Brenda; his four children Lisa (Bill), Becky, Anne (Molly), Ben; his four grandchildren Clare, Ellen (Marcel), Julian, and Dante; and his three great-grandchildren Marlee, Zoey, and Nellie.
