BLACKSBURG- The Blacksburg Town Council welcomed new appointees for various committees and approved capital funds for sewer projects at its meeting June 25, 2024.

The Blacksburg Town Council voted to approve $110,000 to support water and sewer projects. According to the memo for Resolution 6-D-24, it was a resolution to transfer $110,000 to the Harding Avenue Sewer Upgrade project.

“The funds are necessary,” the memo reads, “to fund a change order to the existing DCI Shires Contract Phase I contract. The change order will construct a 12-inch relief sewer line that will eliminate the need for the sewer replacement along College Avenue.”

The Blacksburg Town Council also appointed new members and reappointed returning members to 12 local boards and committees. The Blacksburg Housing and Community Development Advisory Board and the Corridor Advisory Committee received three new members each. Other boards that received new and returning members were ones such as: the Blacksburg Planning Commission, the Board of Building Code Appeals, the Public Arts Committee, and many more. Current Deputy Town Manager, Steve Ross, was appointed the town’s new representative for the New River Valley Home Consortium Board where the resolution states he will serve until June of 2027. All of the new appointments were approved unanimously.
