BLACKSBURG – Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Warm Hearth Foundation’s Employee Growth & Development fund, 14 Warm Hearth employees across the village received a total of $28,750 in scholarships this year – the highest award in program history.

Scholarship funds will help some recipients pay for job-related licenses and certifications, others will use it to attend training and some will pay it toward the ongoing cost of undergraduate or graduate degrees.

The Foundation Board of Trustees reviewed all applications and made awards based on references provided, job performance and the scholarship’s ability to aid in career advancement at Warm Hearth.

“We are proud to see a significant increase in applications and especially pleased that we are able to offer these scholarships with the support of our donors, and to significantly increase the award this year to help more people advance their education,” said Tom Pierce, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

“The scholarship program is one of many ways that Warm Hearth Village recognizes and rewards employees and this helps us to attract, grow and retain highly qualified employees,” added Carlan Myers, Director of Human Resources.

The following employees were awarded scholarships at ceremonies held throughout the village: Shaunna Andrews, Marcus Burks, Shu Ching Chung, Annie Dickerson, Opal DiMarzo, Deanna Farley, Tabitha Greenhalgh, Amy Greer, Bridget Sawyers, Jodie Snider, Madell Stanley, Abbey Stone, Amber Sult and Megan Williams.
