Reza Massjouni has been dominant as a middle school wrestler, going undefeated this past season, but the biggest accolade for the Blacksburg youngster came this past week in Iowa where he was crowned national champion for his age group.

He had never competed in this big of a tournament, adding to the accomplishment.

“It was pretty overwhelming,” he said.

Of course, this recent title is nothing new for the 14-year-old. Massjouni is a two-time Freestyle Nationals Champion (2018 and 2024), one-time Greco national champion, a three-time Southeast Regionals Freestyle Champion, three-time Southeast Regionals Greco Champion, six-time Youth Folkstyle State Champion, four-time Freestyle State Champion and a three-time Greco State Champion. He has also won various big national level folkstyle wrestling tournaments such as Super 32, AAU Nationals, Dixie Nationals, and the Ohio Tournament of Champions.

His father and two younger siblings are also wrestlers, and he credits his dad for his extra training.

Massjouni’s next stop is the U.S. Open in April of next year, and a chance to wrestle at the high school level at 126-pounds.
