Virginia Career Works celebrates new regional office in Radford

RADFORD – A ribbon cutting celebration event at Virginia Career Works brand new office at 51 West Main St., Radford occurred on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.  

The event was promoted regionally by four Chambers of Commerce including Radford Chamber of Commerce, Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and Floyd Chamber of Commerce. The ribbon cutting was highlighted by region stakeholders. Speaking at the event were Sean Pressman, President of the Pulaski Chamber and CEO LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, Steve Buffuto, CEO Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Dan McKinney, Executive Director Radford Chamber of Commerce and Mayor David Horton, City of Radford. Marty Holiday, Executive Director of New River/Mt. Rogers Workforce Development and Karen Akers, Manager of Radford location spoke about the fantastic new location that is able to house all of the services under one roof. They were very appreciative of the support by the business community and the regions Chambers at their ribbon cutting. 

Chamber of Commerce leaders highlighted the importance of this facility not only their members but to the regional workforce too. 

“Workforce development has never been more important to our chamber members and communities than it is now – a time when finding and retaining talent is increasingly challenging,” said Pressman. “Through innovative and diverse programming, this new site will impact all of our surrounding communities, through collaborative initiatives and approaches to elevate the NRV as a whole.   These efforts ensure that our local workforce remains competitive and well-prepared for the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s job market.” 

“The collaboration between the area Chambers of Commerce and Virginia Career Works exemplifies the power of community synergy,” said Buffuto.  “Together we will empower local businesses and job seekers alike to promote economic growth for the New River Valley.” 

McKinney added “the one-stop location for both job seekers and businesses looking to acquire employees will be a tremendous benefit for our region.” 

The Virginia Career Works office has been displaced and working from varied locations recently. This new office will provide their clients with the convenient location and all of the relevant services. Karen Akers and her staff are excited and ready to serve the needs of our region. Virginia Career Works Center is open, located at 51 West Main Street, Radford or call at (540) 267-8100.
