Christiansburg High School has a new girls’ basketball coach.
On Wednesday, the school announced the promotion of the program’s junior varsity coach, K.C. Shrader.
In the release, the school said he “brings structure, passion and strong commitment to fostering excellence both on and off the court. His experience, organization and drive to help out student athletes be the best versions of themselves aligns perfectly with our school’s core values.”
Schrader said in a social media post that he is ready for the next big step in his coaching career.
“I’ve finally made my dream of becoming a head varsity basketball coach come true. I’m very blessed that I get to work with this great group,” he said.
Schrader has also served as the cross country and track and field coach at Eastern Montgomery High School.
Shrader replaces Jacob Underwood who left Christiansburg after two years for Ft. Chiswell High School. Underwood took over at Christiansburg in 2022 and had complied a 25-21 record, leading the team to the regional playoffs this past year.
The new coach also helped with the Xtreme basketball program in Roanoke that included several of the Christiansburg players.
The Blue Demons return the nucleus of last year’s squad including four starters.
