BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech Homecoming week is underway, with activities planned for all members of Hokie Nation.

The celebration began Monday evening with a Homecoming Kickoff for students on the Drillfield with games, inflatables, food, music, and special guests, including this year’s Homecoming Court candidates.

Homecoming Weekend kicks off Friday with events all day. The Friday festivities will culminate in the parade, fireworks show, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternity and sorority yard show in memory of Zenobia L. Hikes, who served as vice president for student affairs before her death in 2008. Here’s a look at additional Friday activities:

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Comida y Comunidad: Homecoming Edition

1-3 p.m. Homecoming Connect: A Hokie Black Alumni and Student Celebration

1:30-3:30 p.m. Homecoming TEA-ser with APIDAS

3:30 p.m. Pass in Review honoring the Class of 1974

2-4 p.m. Pride and Pizza: Homecoming Open House

4-6:30 p.m. Gears and Cheers: Happy Hour at The Ware Lab

4:30-6:30 p.m. Young Alumni Happy Hour

The Homecoming Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. and alumni can join fellow Hokies at a parade watch party. There will be special swag for Cornerstone Alumni and inclusive alumni communities at the party. The parade will travel through campus and down Main Street in downtown Blacksburg.

On Saturday, Hokies can get hyped for the game against Georgia Tech at the Homecoming Tailgate, which will begin at 8 a.m. and be held on the Holtzman Alumni Center Lawn. The tailgate will include food and drinks, lawn games, music, a petting zoo, and football team send-off. Colleges, campus partners, and inclusive alumni communities will participate with student showcases and immersive opportunities for guests to enjoy.

Make sure to review the fan guide for clear bag policies, cashless concession information, and other important details.

To wrap up the weekend, Hokies can join Lindsay Cherry ‘58, one of Virginia Tech’s first Black students, as he gifts his class ring and saber to the Black Cultural Center. This presentation and reception will be held at the Corps Leadership and Military Science Building on Sunday from 10-11:30 a.m.

All events are open to the community. Registration is required for certain events. To learn more about the full schedule of events, visit vt.edu/homecoming.
