Christiansburg Parks and Recreation’s annual Getting Scary on the Huckleberry event had fun for little ones.

Several people running in the 5K did so in their costumes.

CHRISTIANSBURG – Christiansburg Parks and Recreation hosted their annual Getting Scary on the Huckleberry event this past Saturday.

Hundreds of Christiansburg and Montgomery County residents attended this event for their Truck-or-Treat, Kids Fun Run and the beloved 5k.

The Kids Fun Run started off the day’s events where children under ten participated in a run along the Huckleberry Trail by the Christiansburg Recreation Center. The 5K run followed shortly after the Kids Fun Run and anyone nine years of age were welcome to participate as long as they were pre-registered. Costumes were not required but were encouraged and many runners took the opportunity to dress up. Participants could run, walk, or jog, but were mostly encouraged to have fun. Participants ranged from teachers, parents, little ones and even the Christiansburg Run Club. The race started and ended at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.

After all the participants were done running, there was a Truck-or-Treat in the back Rec Center parking lot with breakfast for all those attending. Parks and Recreation staff, including Director Brad Epperley, made pumpkin pancakes for those present and hungry from running. The Truck-or-Treat had trucks from Christiansburg Fire, EMS and Christiansburg Police Department as well as local businesses like Modern Day Roofing. The Truck-or-Treat was free for residents to bring their little ghouls and goblins for a sweet treat.

The Town of Christiansburg will continue to host more spooky events until Halloween on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024. Christiansburg’s downtown will be extra festive with their Town Hall-oween, an indoor trick-or-treating event, and their Downtown Halloween Treat Trail on the evening of Halloween.
