Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

Richard Clore Quesenberry, 95 lived his life as one of God’s chosen people. He was always leading by example and helping those in need.  Surrounded by family, Richard went to be with the Lord Oct. 29, 2024.

Richard grew up in Pulaski as the older brother to the late Alvertia Quesenberry and graduated from Pulaski High School. He was the son of the late Lester and Frances Quesenberry.

After graduating from VPI&SU, Richard served in the Navy as a dental technician on the Palau 122 Aircraft Carrier.

While teaching at Pulaski High School, he met the late Edna Frye who he married July 8, 1960. They became life-long residents of Blacksburg and members of St. Michael Lutheran Church. He served as an Industrial Arts teacher and Assistant Principal at Blacksburg High School.  During that time, he influenced many with his patient and fair leadership skills. Richard went on to serve as the Supervisor of Transportation for Montgomery County Schools. After retirement, he worked at Reed Lumber where he enjoyed seeing former students.

Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He spent many summers at the Outer Banks camping and fishing. He and Edna were able to enjoy cross country trips to explore National Parks. They followed their beloved Hokies to ACC Championships and Bowl games.

Richard lived a full life and will live on in those who took inspiration in his leadership, kindness, and compassion. He will be missed.

Richard is survived by his sons, Richard C. Quesenberry Jr. and Preston L. Quesenberry; his daughter, Patricia A. Burchill; his daughter-in-law Gina Quesenberry; and his grandson Samuel P. Quesenberry. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dennis W. Burchill.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Micah’s Backpack to help feed students in Blacksburg Public Schools (hope@micahsbackpack.org).

Per Richard’s wishes there will be a graveside celebration of life for the family in Glade Spring, Virginia.
