MONTGOMERY COUNTY- Thousands of Montgomery exercised their right to vote Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024 for the 2024 presidential election.
Montgomery County, according to the Virginia Department of Elections, is home to 63,910 registered voters out of its current 98,666 residents as of the 2023 census. With 29 reporting voting precincts, Montgomery County showed up and showed out for voting.
Presidential candidates included Donald J. Trump for the republican party, and vice President Kamala D. Harris for the democratic party, as well as third-party candidates Jill E. Stein for the Green Party, Chase Oliver for the Libertarians and Claudia De la Cruz and Cornel West for the Independent vote. Out of the 63,910 registered voters in Montgomery County, the Virginia Department of Elections reported that 43,136 Montgomery County voters placed ballots, equating to 67% of the registered voting population. In Montgomery County, 21,382 residents voted for the democratic candidate and 20,575 residents voted for the republican candidate. This was key to turning Virginia back to blue as the Associated Press did have Virginia in the purple category in their states map as the votes were coming in, but Montgomery County helped maintain Virginia’s blue state status.
The Montgomery County residents who voted did so in a few different ways. Early voting in-person ended Nov. 2, 2024 and many Montgomery County voters took advantage of that opportunity. Many voters mailed in their ballots, while many others waited until Nov. 5 to cast their votes. Voters of all eligible ages were out at the polls and exercising their constitutional right to vote.
On the morning of Nov. 6, 2024, Donald J. Trump was declared the next president of the United States of America, with over 270 electoral votes and 72,564,812 votes according to the Associated Press as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
