The Montgomery Museum of Art & History has announced Sherry Joines Wyatt, Assistant Director & Museum Curator, will become the next Executive Director of the Montgomery Museum.
Current Executive Director Casey Jenkins will be leaving the museum in early January 2025 to become the Executive Director of the Virginia Association of Museums. After his departure, Wyatt will step into the primary leadership role at the Montgomery Museum.
Wyatt holds a Master of Historic Preservation degree from the University of Georgia and worked in the architectural history field for a number of years in her native North Carolina as well as in Virginia. She began volunteering with the Montgomery Museum soon after moving to Christiansburg and took the role of Collections Manager in 2010.
“For me, the Museum represents a place of community,” said Wyatt. “The institution and its people have been an important part of my life, and I am honored to have been asked to be its new Executive Director. I look forward to continuing to work with our talented staff and volunteers to provide relevant and engaging art and history programming.”
Wyatt’s efforts first as Collections Manager and later the museum curator have aided the museum in further developing historical exhibits, art engagement, and community programming. She has taken on increasing responsibilities since the beginning of 2024 as assistant director, aiding with the wider development and growth of the Montgomery Museum.
“All of us at the museum—board, staff, volunteers, and members—enthusiastically endorse the promotion of Sherry Wyatt to executive director of the museum,” said Board President, Dr. Jean Haskell. “With her professional credentials and her more than a decade of experience with this Museum, we welcome her into this new leadership position and offer her our full support.”
Wyatt will begin her role as the executive director effective Jan. 1, 2025.
