Delegate Chris Obenshain (R-41) has formally announced he is running for re-election to the House of Delegates, and his challenger, Lily Franklin, has announced a fundraising achievement.
“Serving the citizens of Roanoke and Montgomery counties has been the honor of my life,” said Obenshain. “In Richmond, I have voted to cut taxes on working families, make our neighborhoods safer, transform our behavioral health system, and improve teacher pay to help our kids get ahead. This year I’m working to eliminate the car tax, honor our veterans, expand access to childcare, and support our law enforcement and first responders. Our Commonwealth is on the right path, but continuing to grow jobs and opportunities for Southwest Virginia will take strong, steady leadership. I am running for re-election because the work to lower costs and improve the quality of life for families in our region is not yet done.”
Franklin and Obenshain’s race was one of the closest of the 2023 cycle, with Franklin losing to Obenshain by 183 votes. Franklin recently announced raising $53,129 in just six weeks.
“This milestone is a testament to the power of grassroots organizing and the belief that we can build a brighter future for Virginia,” Franklin said. “The people of this district are ready for a representative who will fight for their needs—whether it’s affordable homeownership and fair rental options, meaningful tax relief, creating good-paying jobs, or ensuring quality public education for all. Together, we’re proving that every voice matters and every dollar counts.”
“This race is about putting people over politics,” she added. “While my opponent relies on the status quo, we’re building a movement that prioritizes the hardworking families of this district. The support we’ve received so far makes it clear: the 41st District is ready for new leadership.”
Virginia’s 41st House District includes parts of Montgomery and Roanoke counties.
Obenshain serves on the Public Safety Committee, the Courts of Justice Committee, and the Virginia Behavioral Health Commission. A father of three, he resides with his wife, Jennifer, in Blacksburg where they attend Northstar Church. Chris currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
