CHRISTIANSBURG — The Montgomery County School Board has elected its 2025 chair and vice chair.
Linwood Hudson will serve as chair, and Laura Purcell will serve as vice chair.
Hudson joined the school board in 2022 and served as its chair in 2024. Purcell’s tenure began in 2024, and this is her first time in a leadership role.
“I’m honored to be re-elected as school board chair for MCPS,” Hudson said. “As a school board member, you serve on behalf of your community, but as a member of leadership, you’re really serving the rest of the board. We come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives, but our board works together amazingly well and I’m proud to be their chair again.
We accomplished so much last year, I’m excited to see what we get done in 2025.”
“I appreciate the trust and support of my colleagues as I step into this role,” Purcell said. “I am honored to serve our community on the school board and will continue to advocate for our students.”
Outside of Hudson’s role as chair, he serves as the liaison between the MCPS School Board and the Southwest Virginia Governors School as well as the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
Purcell represents the MCPS School Board on the Montgomery County Educational Foundation Board and serves as a liaison for the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
