The Montgomery Museum of Art & History is hosting art from the majority of Montgomery County’s public schools, with the student art shows being highly attended and much beloved by the community.
This show offers a combined vision of student art across the county and has been specially curated by elementary school art teachers. The Montgomery Museum strives to serve all members of the community and by exhibiting student art the museum encourages youth to embrace their creativity and artistic skills.
“Featuring artwork outside the school building recognizes students’ accomplishments and fosters a connection with their community,” said Linda Hinson, an art teacher and Montgomery Museum Arts Advisory Committee member. “It elevates the value of their artistic expression and promotes a sense of civic engagement.”
The show will include student art from Auburn Elementary, Belview Elementary, Eastern Montgomery Elementary, Falling Branch Elementary, Gilbert Linkous Elementary, Harding Avenue Elementary, Kipps Elementary, Margaret Beeks Elementary, Christiansburg Elementary, and Price’s Fork Elementary.
The Elementary School art will be on exhibit through Feb. 28. The reception for the show will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, 5 – 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Judging for the elementary show will be made by a local retired art educator and local artist. Ribbons, sketchbooks, and markers will be given to students earning an “Award of Excellence.” Student awards are generously provided by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association (BRAA).
