For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups.

Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity, according to Lions International. This year’s theme was Peace Without Limits.

Blacksburg Middle schoolers competed to share their unique vision of world peace in posters.   There were 105 students competing and three winners were selected from each the sixth and seventh grades. First, second, and third place winners received $100, $50, and $25 respectively as well as earning their school’s art department $200. Our first prize winners advanced to the Lions District of Southwest Virginia and possibly to the international level.

The first-place winner in 7th grade age 12 from Blacksburg Middle School became the Peace Poster Winner for the Lions District 24-C of Southwest Virginia and for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Their quote about “Peace is a great thing, but we have to strive and work hard to achieve it” impressed the judges. Their poster has advanced to Lions International to be entered into the International Competition.

Blacksburg Breakfast Lions Club was honored to sponsor our town’s children in their artistic messages to us and the world. We thank Blacksburg Middle School and their excellent teachers for participating. Enjoy their wonderful messages in art.
