The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is currently holding a food drive, seeing an unprecedented number of customers in need of its services.

The average number of families visiting the food pantry has increased 98% since 2022. We serve approximately 375 families a month representing over 1150 individuals. To fill our shelves, the pantry is holding a canned food drive March 16 – 30. We are asking the public to drop off cans of food at collections points throughout the town or in the bins at the Food Pantry located at 706 Harding Avenue. Our goal is 30,000 cans. With your help, we can reach our goal.

Serving residents of the greater Blacksburg area and McCoy, the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is a joint ministry of over 25 faith-based communities. We have been serving the greater Blacksburg area for over 37 years. We are also supported by individuals, organizations, and clubs in the surrounding community.

The Pantry offers basic food supplies, once a month, to low-income greater Blacksburg and McCoy residents or those in emergency situations, including homeless individuals and families. While the majority of the Pantry’s clients work or are retired, minimum wage jobs or social security payments do not always enable recipients to feed their families.

The Pantry is an all-volunteer organization and depends solely on contributions from the community to serve our customers. Food and monetary donations come from local churches, civic clubs, schools, businesses, Virginia Tech organizations, and various food drives (including the annual US Postal Drive). We also receive donations from local businesses. In season, fresh vegetables are donated by local residents, and the NRV Glean team.
