NOTICE OF PROPOSED INCREASES IN SEWER AND WATER FEES,
AND SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING FEES
BLACKSBURG TOWN COUNCIL will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 6:30
p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building at 300 South
Main Street, Blacksburg concerning the proposed adoption of Ordinance 2077 which would
increase sewer and water fees, as set forth below.
Sewer Rates. The following increases are proposed:
Rates generally.
(a) Service charge inside corporate limits $3.11 $3.27 plus $7.01 $7.36 for each
1,000 gallons or fraction thereof.
(b) Service charge outside corporate limits $5.45 $5.72 plus $12.27 $12.88 for
each 1,000 gallons or fraction thereof.
Customers not served by town water system
(a) Monthly charge inside corporate limits: $45.17 $47.43 for each equivalent unit.
(b) Monthly charge outside corporate limits: $79.05 $83.00 for each equivalent unit.
The authority for these sewer charges is provided by Virginia Code §15.2-2111.
Water Rates. The following increases are proposed:
(a) Service charge inside corporate limits: $3.09 $3.24 and a rate of $8.13 $8.54 for
each 1,000 gallons or fraction thereof.
(b) Service charge outside corporate limits: $5.41 $5.68 and a rate of $14.23 $14.94 for
each 1,000 gallons or fraction thereof.
The authority for these water fees is provided by Virginia Code §15.2-2111.
Solid Waste Rates. The following increases are proposed:
(a) The service charge for collection of Class A residential solid waste and Class II
bulky rubbish shall be $31.50 $32.67 per calendar month. The service charge for
collection of light commercial solid waste shall be $31.50 $32.67 per establishment,
in both cases, for up to one solid waste container and $31.50 $32.67 for each
additional unit or their equivalent, excluding recycling containers, per calendar
month. The service charge for all other generators of other types of solid waste
contracting with the town for curbside refuse and recycling service shall be $31.50
$32.67 per dwelling unit or per establishment, per calendar month.
The authority for these solid waste fees is provided by Virginia Code §15.2-928.
A copy of Ordinance 2077, as well as the documentation for the fee changes, may be inspected
in the Blacksburg Town Clerk’s office, 300 South Main Street, Blacksburg, weekdays between
