James Clifton “J.C.” Akers, 91, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maury Edward and Madgie Spencer Akers; his loving wife, Christine Burke Akers; his son, Wayne Akers; and his sister, Ruth Spaulding.

He is survived by a daughter, Joetta Whitehurst; daughter-in-law, Tanya Akers; grandchildren and their spouses, Christi and Barry Elliott, John Sparks, Lauren Sparks, Stephanie and Derrick Boyd, Stacy and Shep Millar, James and Maegan Akers, Shannon and Josh Collins, and Breana and Zach McManamy; step grandchildren, Tyler and Amanda Marcum, and Brian Mullins; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Mallory, Brooklyn, Alexis, Nicholas, Natalie, Avery, Eden, Skyler, Layla, Laurel, Charlotte, Clara, Braxton, Caden and Caleb; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.

The family received friends Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Belview United Methodist Church in Christiansburg at with Rev. Sebert Rorrer and Pastor Daron Glisson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.

Flowers are appreciated, however if you would rather make a donation, the family requests it be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

The Akers family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
