Craft beer presentation At the Village Center, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg, 2 p.m. Experience the creativity of local craft beer with Brandon Roberson, Eastern Divide’s Head Brewer. Enjoy a curated tasting while learning how brewing techniques, passion, and regional flavors combine to create bold and memorable beers. Brandon Roberson, Head Brewer at Eastern Divide Brewing Co., began his brewing journey as a self-taught homebrewer. Thursday, May 22:

Christiansburg Farmers Market The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located in the Recreation Center parking lot, 1600 N. Franklin St. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, handmade jewelry and more. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check Facebook for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The market will run now through Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

Waffles Club! A Young Writer’s Group Join the Radford Public Library, 4- 4:45 p.m., for a gently guided writing club for kids, aka the Waffles Club (Writing Association for Fun Loving Enthusiastic Students)! Together, we will work on responding to writing prompts, have some quiet writing time, and the opportunity to share work! Geared toward 8-12 year olds. Please bring your favorite writing materials!

Friday, May 23:

Blacksburg Summer Arts Festival concert Corey Harris, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Henderson Lawn. Free. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be canceled.

BMCF Lawn Concerts Warmer weather means the perfect time for outdoor music. Bring a chair, food, and beverage to the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation, 204 Draper Rd SW, and then sit back and enjoy the music of Shelter Alternatives Friday Jam at noon.

Saturday, May 24:

Sunday, May 25:

Blacksburg Vintage Market Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month April – November, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the best selection of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities, and who knows what else. Market is located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square park, under the Farmer’s market structure.

Monday, May 26:

Memorial Day ceremony At Radford’s Bisset Park gazebo, 11 a.m. Speakers, patriotic music, readings and more.

Memorial Day closures Blacksburg: Town Offices- Town administrative offices will be closed. Blacksburg Transit- There will be no BT service and BT offices will be closed. Parks and Recreation- Blacksburg Community Center and Aquatic Center will be closed. No Trash Pickup- Trash pickup in the SE quadrant is rescheduled for Wednesday, May 28. Please have all trash at the curb by 7 a.m.

Christiansburg: Town of Christiansburg facilities, including the Aquatic and Recreation Centers, will be closed. Solid waste and recycling normally collected on Mondays will be collected on Tuesday, May 27, along with Tuesday’s regular collection.

Montgomery County: County offices closed.

Radford: City offices closed. Solid Waste Collection: Friday, May 23: Collected on Thursday, May 22. Monday, May 26: Collected on Tuesday, May 27. Please have garbage ready for collection by 7:30 a.m. Drop Center: Friday, May 23: Closed. Saturday, May 24: Open. Monday, May 26: Closed. Radford Public Library closed Friday, May 23- Monday, May 26.

Tuesday, May 27:

Blacksburg Town Council meeting The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

Christiansburg Town Council meeting Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting Meeting held on a Tuesday due to the Memorial day holiday. Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Friday, May 30:

RPL Summer Reading kick-off party Summer Reading is here! Join the Radford Public Library for an all-ages Kick-Off Party and get registered for the Summer Reading Program, 12:30 – 2 p.m. We will have a special cake to celebrate and goody bags for the first 50 people who register, and games will also be out to play. This year’s theme is Color Our World – we can’t wait to color with you! To get us started, goody bags will include chalk that you can use to decorate the library’s parking lot sidewalk!

Saturday, May 31:

Sunday, June 1:

Installation Service First Missionary Baptist Church-New River invites you to join us on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 3 p.m. for an installation service for Pastor-Elect Rev. Montie E. Brown, Sr. We are located at 7318 Manns Drive, Fairlawn. The minister for the installation service will be Rev. Wallis Brown, Pastor of First Baptist Church-West Dublin. All are welcome to attend.

Thursday, June 5: 

16 Squares Walking Tour Meet at The Alexander Black House every other Thursday at noon to explore the historic streets within the original 16 Squares of Blacksburg and learn the rich history and stories behind many of the buildings and landmarks throughout town that may go unnoticed. You may also schedule this tour by appointment if Thursdays don’t work for your group. As an add-on to this tour, you may also request a tour of historic St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall. Free of Charge. Saturday, June 7:

Gospel Sing Join the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation, 204 Draper Rd SW, for the 9th annual Gospel Sing, part of the New Town Festival Series, 12- 5 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with dancing, singing and fellowship as local groups and soloists perform their favorite current and old-time gospel favorites. Kirk’s Famous Smoked BBQ will join us again this year with plenty of food for sale. This is a free event, though donations are encouraged, and many thanks to our Supporting Sponsor, Stateson Homes.

On-going:

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.

New Blacksburg Community Center online survey available The Town of Blacksburg is seeking community feedback, thoughts and ideas on a new Community Center facility. Citizens are invited to be a part of the process. An online survey for this project is now open on Let’s Talk Blacksburg and will be available until May 27. Visit https://letstalkblacksburg.org/new-blacksburg-community-center to learn more, take the survey and ask questions.

Christiansburg Façade Grant application period The Town of Christiansburg is now accepting applications for the 2025 Façade Grant to apply for up to $5,000 in matching grants. This program first started in 2019, completing its first round in 2020, and was designed to improve the streetscape and strengthen relationships with stakeholders in downtown Christiansburg and Cambria. Applications are open through June 30, 2025. Visit christianburg.org for more information on how to apply.
