Virginia Tech Women’s Club (VTWC) recently held its final luncheon of the year and awarded scholarships to six Virginia Tech women.

The scholarship program began in 1972 and funds were raised through cookbook sales that year. One $500 scholarship was given to a Home Economics major. Today six women received scholarships totaling $34,800. The money was raised through donations and fundraisers throughout the year.

On April 22, VTWC met at Warm Hearth for a luncheon to host and honor the scholarship recipients. The 2025 Scholarship awards were presented to six outstanding women in the amount of $5,800 each. The scholarship criteria state that the student must be a rising junior or senior who has completed at least one semester at VT and intends to graduate from VT, has a minimum QCA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and have excellence in scholarship, curricular, and extracurricular activities. Four of the young women were able to attend and spoke to the group about their career plans. The VTWC 2025 scholarship recipients were Madison Blake, Sai Chegu, Krista Carlton, Lacey Ngo, Nicole Quiram, and Leah Tillman.

Madison Blake is a junior majoring in Animal and Poultry Sciences with a Minor in Japanese Studies. Her goal is to become a veterinarian. She said that she is grateful to VTWC for their thoughtful consideration.

Sai Chegu is a sophomore majoring in Civil Engineering. Her goal is to help communities with water resources and she is going to Kenya to work on providing water to people. Sai said, “We really appreciate all you have done for us.”

Krista Carlton is a senior majoring in Animal and Poultry Sciences. She has been accepted into the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She stated that the support of VTWC “allows us to achieve our dreams.”

Lacey Ngo is a junior with a double major in Biomedical Engineering and Nanomedicine.

Nicole Quiram is a junior majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Psychology. Her goal is to work in the healthcare industry. In her comments to VTWC, she said she was grateful for the support of her education. “It makes a huge impact on our education.”

Leah Tillman is a sophomore with a major in Architecture. She wants to design affordable and safe housing for people in need.

One of the purposes of VTWC is provide scholarships for women at Virginia Tech. VTWC thanks everyone who generously wrote a check to support scholarships or participated in the many fundraising events held by VTWC. You made a difference in the lives of young women at Virginia Tech. Being able to meet and listen to these truly outstanding young women and learn how the scholarships impact their educational goals was a wonderful opportunity for members of the club.
