Dear Editor,
Saying something
Everyone looks forward to the Fourth of July, it is a holiday that people appreciate and enjoy.
I must say that when I was a kid the day scared me as it was a sign that the summer was half over and school would be starting soon. But this year the 4th was special for me and others in the New River Valley (NRV) as they walked in the annual Blacksburg Fourth of July parade as members of the group “Indivisible.”
There were around 80 parade walkers with flags and signs walking down Main Street, Blacksburg, each walker stating their concern about the direction democracy is heading in this country.
In front of the “Indivisible” group was a truck with a speaker relaying Martin Luther Kings’ speech, “Freedom.” Individuals were walking to celebrate the 4th, democracy and what it stands for in the United States, a reflection of his speech.
Along the parade route was a man handing out 4×4 bulletins from “Indivisible” with the title “We the People –Standing and Speaking up Together.” The message inside the hand-out stated Trump’s Big Bad Bill is bad for most Americans.
The message outlined the bill, which does nothing for the people in Southwest Virginia. It only makes life harder, particularly people living in rural communities in Morgan Griffith’s 9th district.
The sad part our representative, in the U.S. House of Representatives, Morgan Griffith, supported the bill. Citizens must be worried does Morgan support the people in his voting district, or Mr. Trump.
We know the answer.
